Three Books That Changed The Way I Think

Two years ago I walked into a book store in South London searching for a book to accompany my morning coffee. At the time I loved a good thriller where I could get lost in a make believe world of an every day girl on a train, or the underground black market of fine art with a famous painting named the Goldfinch. But for some strange reason I decided to walk to the ‘self help’ section in the two story bookstore. Now don’t get me wrong, I definitely wasn’t in a deep, dark place in my life, or needed “weightloss tips” but maybe it was my subconscious letting me know it was time to learn a lil something new. While looking through the hundreds of books, and quite literally judging every book by its cover, a little bright yellow book stood out the most. This book I have seen countless times on ‘Lee From Americas’ Instagram stories and have always been curious as to what it holds. Next thing I know, I have handed over my ยฃ9.99 to the cashier and have walked out of the book store with my first wellness book ‘You are a Badass’ by Jen Sincero.

You Are A Badass – Jen Sincero

‘How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life’

This book is at the top of my list because without it I would not be writing this blog post. It taught me to stop waiting for ‘the right time’ and publish my first post. If you are new to the health and wellness world this is the perfect book to dip your toe in the water. It’s short and sweet and is written in a language that you would chat to your closest girlfriends in over brunch. It’s broken into five simple parts which basically teach you why your mind is the way is the way it is, how to utilize your mind and as a bonus how to use this new found info to make some serious moola ($$$).

The Power Of Now – Eckhart Tolle

‘A guide to spiritual enlightenment’

This 236 page book of “truth and power” is listed as one of Jen Sinceros resource books while creating ‘You Are A Badass’. In this New York Times best seller, Tolle begins with his own story of spiritual enlightenment and proceedes with a question and answer format to discuss the power of being fully present. Until I read this book I found it hard to grasp the the complexity of the mind,  but Tolle has made it so simple to differentiate between the conscious and subconscious mind that my knowledge has grown in ways I could of never imagined.

Taking Charge Of Your Fertility -Toni Weschler

‘The definitive guide to natural birth control, pregnancy achievement and reproductive health’

Around six months ago I made the decision to stop taking the oral contraceptive pill for various medical reasons. When my friend Felica, recommended me this book I was quick to jump on Amazon and get it shipped to my house the following week. After reading the first few chapters I was hooked, and like Toni warns I was shocked that I hadn’t learnt this information about my body in school. The book teachers how to read the various signs and signals of the female body. By incorporating these tips into my everyday life I now have a chart system where I naturally understand everything from; why I may be breaking out or bloated to even when  I have ovulated or that time of the month is due. I believe this book should be a staple on every girl/woman’s bookshelf and am so grateful I got the opportunity to read it.
